Like Tweet Pin it Share Share Email

In this era of social media marketing why building your email list is so important? Can’t we just engage with our audience through all the top social networking sites and send push advertisements? Then why you need an email list at all?

Though we can surely do that, but studies show that many people still prefer to receive permission based Email marketing. Many people consider that email is a boring old technology compared to the trendy social media sites, but email marketing remains the most direct and personalized way of communication till date.

Email is an excellent way of promoting your products and services while engaging with our audience in a creative manner. Email allows you to engage with the audience in a more personalized and tailored manner which further helps in converting your subscribers into sales.

Key Benefits of Building an Email List Why it is Important

Also according to a recent study by Ipsos, 85% of the respondents use internet for email communication, whereas only 62% use the social media sites. This clearly shows where your target audience are. And to make a successful email marketing campaign, you must focus on building a profitable email list.

In this article we will discuss about the advantages of email marketing over any other promotional strategies and the key benefits of building an email list of your own.

Major Benefits of Building an Email List and Email Marketing

  1. Email is More Targeted

To subscribe for your email newsletter, one has to go through a double opt-in process. This means they are interested to receive mails from you as they are allowing you to send mails to their inbox. Most likely these users are responsive to your message. As you know what their likes are, you can send them highly relevant content and offers. This audience is far more likely to click through your offers and finally buy products/ services from you.

  1. Email has Better Reach

Twitter and Facebook are among the top social networking sites and also are hugely popular. But it is also the fact that, not everyone uses them. But as we saw earlier, almost everyone has an email account. And almost everyday they read emails or at least scan through their inbox. Whereas in case of social media sites, people are following or are member of hundreds of groups or communities. So chances are higher that they will miss your message.

  1. Email is Personal

Email as a communication channel is one to one and personal. This is an intimate medium of communication which allows you to reach the user’s inbox. Many people prefer to ask questions or queries in private rather than in the timeline. As the communication is direct with the user, it arouses interest and hence helps them to take the right decision. It also helps them to build a relationship over the period of time and develop a trust in your brand and hence spreading the word of mouth.

  1. Email has 100% Access

Preparing your own email list allows you to have your own email database. Whereas you don’t have much control over the social media communication. For any reason, in case, these social media sites change their user settings, or for that matter you lose your social accounts, your communication channel may be badly disturbed.

  1. Email is Low Cost

Compared to any other promotional strategies, email is low cost. You actually pay nothing to land directly to someone’s inbox and grab their attention for your products/ services.

From all the points it is clearly visible that an email works far better than any other online marketing tool. You need not to spend thousands of dollar in your marketing campaign. Just focus on building a targeted email list and not buying or renting a database. You can easily use your email list to promote your products & services and at the same time, achieve better results.

Free Email vs Paid Email Service Provider

Now the question is whether you should go with a free email service or a paid one. As a starter you can definitely go for the free options. Email service providers like MailChimp, Aweber or GetResponse are very popular. Aweber and GetResponse come with a 30 day free trial. Whereas MailChimp is the most beginner friendly email service as they provide a free account for initial 2000 subscribers and 12000 emails. I think this is more than enough for a newbie. You will be able to send 6 mails per month. But in case you are looking for more options in your email service, then it is better to go for a paid service.

Importance of Email List Builder WordPress Plugins

Email subscription plugins help you to give your email list building campaign a strong boost. There are a number of free email newsletter plugins available online. But the premium plugins like OptinMonster or Plugmatter Optin feature Box come with lots of advanced features like innovative Optin forms, A/B Split testing, multiple templates and form types, page level targeting, easy analytics and many more.

A/B split testing is a very important feature of any email sign up plugin which helps you to see which email templates/ campaigns work better. Both OptinMonster and Plugmatter provide you option to split test your campaigns. So if you want to see a significant growth in your email subscription rate, then carefully choose and opt for a good email newsletter plugin.

Everyone works hard to bring more traffic to their site. But if you are not offering any clear way for them to sign-up for your future resources, then you lose out on the real impact of that traffic. So provide an attractive and clear sign up form to capture your leads.

All the marketing tools like Social networking, online advertising etc. serve the purpose they are intended to do. But a targeted email list remains the most important asset in your online business.

  • Sometimes I feel whether it is really effective. With the increasing use of mobile many have reduced the usage of emails. Great list mentioned but the success rate may not be high, just a thought.
